2024 Annual Virtual Meeting Highlights

• Dr. Jude Water Quality Recommendations: Recirculating phosphorus levels causing weed growth. Use little or no fertilizer. Install water gardens to prevent nutrients from getting in the water. Clean your boats thoroughly to prevent new invasive species from entering the lake.

• Weed Management: Lake surveys conducted by new company Progressive and weed treatment continue using Savin will take place in June. Look for email notification and signs of when to stay off the lake.

• Oil Spill Endangers Lake: Oil was maliciously spilled on streets within Pine Lake Manor on May 6th. Quick and persistent action by their Association and PLPOA Board engaged EGLE for clean-up. It is an active police investigation. Our thanks to those involved in protecting our lake!

• Water Level: May saw spring high water levels. Projections are for summer rain at normal levels.

• Treasurer’s Report: 2023 financial report and 2024 budget were approved. Dues remain the same. Invoices will be emailed (or USPS for those without email) in June. 2024 dues are due by August.

• Goose Egg & Nest Collection: 4 nests and 18 eggs were collected. Use of flags to locate nests was successful and will be continued next year.

• Lake Safety: Boat count showed 467 boats on our 392-acre lake. The past three years have been about the same. Sheriff report: Sheriff was on the lake for 117 hrs. and completed 106 safety inspections. Two tickets were issued for no boating certificate and unsafe riding/sitting on the boat.

• Communications: Goal is to inform and educate about Pine Lake. New website is under construction. Weed treatment will be in June watch for signs and email notices.

Boating Safety - Please be careful and respectful on the lake!

Boating Safety Concerns (What NOT to Do!)

• Boaters on the lake traveling the wrong way

• PWC’s going the wrong way and driving too close to boat sterns

• Playing speakers too loud. Sound travels across the water.

• Wake-boarding too close to shore (100 ft violation)

• Young passengers sitting on the bow of pontoon, dangling their feet in the water while in motion

• Boats towing skiers, tubers, wake boarders and surfers without a life jacket/personal floatation device or observer

• Passengers on pontoon boats sitting on the “front deck” (beyond the front gate

  while the engine is on

• Boats less than 200 feet from the shore, boats, anchored boats, docks, rafts, and other structures

• Creating a wake when less than 200 feet of any dock, boat, raft, shoreline, buoy or occupied swim area.

  The buoy in front of the Marina cautions boaters that this is a wake zone.

  These behaviors are very dangerous and could lead to severe injury or death!

Boating Safety Reminders

• Follow Michigan Boater requirements

• Navigation lights at dusk

• Stay in the deep water path!

• No skiing, tubing, or surfing 1 hour after sunset

• Stay out of ski course and away from buoys

• Holidays, especially July 4th weekend, are very busy.

• Be patient and be mindful of safety. Wake will be challenging for many boating activities

• Violation of Distance Requirement – 200 ft No Wake 7/24

• PWC‘s are not allowed from Sunset to 8 AM per Michigan law
