Message from the PLPOA PresidentDear Pine Lake Riparians and Members, As we welcome the 2026 season, I hope this message finds you well and looking forward to another wonderful year on Pine Lake. After another Michigan winter, we are all ready for the signs of spring and the return of life around the lake. While we certainly experienced cold temperatures this winter, the snowfall and overall precipitation were lighter than in some recent years. As a result, we are currently beginning the season with slightly lower lake water levels. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and hope for steady spring and summer rain showers to help maintain healthy water levels throughout the boating season. Your Pine Lake Property Owners Association Board has been busy throughout the winter months preparing for the upcoming season. A major focus of our work continues to be protecting the health and beauty of Pine Lake. In the months ahead, we will be implementing our 2026 lake management and weed control program to ensure the lake remains one of the cleanest and most vibrant lakes in Michigan. As part of this effort, riparians will be asked to sign consent forms allowing treatment near their shoreline. Your cooperation is essential in helping us effectively manage invasive weeds and maintain healthy water conditions for everyone who enjoys the lake. In addition, the Board has been working to update our association by-laws to modernize them and reflect current business practices (e.g., virtual meetings, etc.). We anticipate asking members to approve these updates at our Annual Meeting in May or, if needed, through an electronic vote. Please stay tuned for additional information in the coming weeks. Beyond these efforts, the Board remains committed to keeping Pine Lake safe, beautiful, and enjoyable for all residents. We look forward to another season of boating, swimming, fishing, and gathering with friends and neighbors who make this community so special. President, Pine Lake Property Owners Association _______________________________________________________________________________________ Geese Remediation Program – We Need Your HelpThe PLPOA has partnered with Goose Busters for many years to help manage the goose population around Pine Lake. The PLPOA secures the necessary permits, and Goose Busters performs egg collection and nest destruction as part of this program. Each spring, their team visits the lake several times—in an approximately two-week period—launching a boat to access the lake and the canal and checking areas where nests have been found in previous years or where residents have reported potential nesting activity. We need your help from late March through mid-April to identify possible nesting areas. Your role is simply to help locate and flag nests that may contain eggs. Look for pairs of geese showing nesting behavior, as females often return to the same nesting location each year. Flagging Process A new flagging system has helped Goose Busters locate nests more efficiently and has increased the number of successful nest removals. Please follow the steps below if you notice suspicious goose activity on your property: Pick up two or more flags from the blue Rubbermaid bin located on the left side of the boat ramp at Pine Lake Country Club. The bin is labeled and includes instructions. Email your lake address/location to
info@pinelakemi.com and lhenney@comcast.com. Place one flag near the shoreline to identify the property for Goose Busters. Place the second flag close to the suspected nest location to help the team locate the exact area.

_______________________________________________________________________________________ 2026 Pine Lake Aquatic Plant & Weed Management Plan – OverviewThe Pine Lake Property Owners Association is continuing its proactive approach to lake stewardship in 2026 with a coordinated aquatic plant management program designed to maintain lake health, improve recreational access, and control invasive weeds. The program will again be guided by environmental consultants from Progressive Companies, who will oversee plant monitoring, treatment planning, and coordination with the lake treatment contractors. Their work also ensures that all activities comply with permits from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). How the 2026 Program Will Work Throughout the growing season (May–August), the lake will be surveyed approximately once per month using GPS mapping technology. These surveys identify the location and density of aquatic plants and guide targeted treatment where needed. The program focuses primarily on controlling invasive species such as Eurasian milfoil and curly-leaf pondweed, while protecting beneficial native plants that support the lake’s ecosystem. Based on survey results and permit conditions, management actions during the season may include: Targeted herbicide treatments early and mid-season to control invasive weeds Follow-up monitoring surveys to measure effectiveness and track plant growth Mechanical harvesting later in the season if nuisance growth appears in certain areas A detailed late-summer vegetation survey to evaluate the lake’s plant community and guide future management
Treatments are tentatively planned to begin in early June, with additional surveys and possible treatments continuing through August, followed by harvesting or final inspections in late August or early September if needed. Property Owner Permissions Because state regulations require authorization for aquatic treatments near private waterfront property, Pine Lake shoreline property owners will be asked to sign a brief permission form allowing treatments within the permitted lake management area adjacent to their property. Communication and Reporting All work will be tracked and documented, including maps of treated areas and the types of plants addressed. At the end of the season, Progressive Companies will prepare an annual report summarizing the results and providing recommendations for future lake management. The goal of this program is to maintain a balanced lake ecosystem while ensuring Pine Lake remains enjoyable for boating, swimming, and fishing throughout the summer. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Want to treat your swim and dock area for weeds? Individual property treatment information: While PLPOA does not treat weeds at the shoreline, we have received complaints from some riparians who have significant nuisance weeds in their dock and swim areas. We are going to pilot an optional program to help these riparians in 2026. How this will work: Savin Lake Services will offer individual shoreline treatment services to PLPOA members This program includes two (2) treatments per participating property: one in early summer and one in late summer The total cost is $200 per property regardless of the length of your lake frontage Treatments will address nuisance aquatic plants and algae along the full length of each participating property’s shoreline (using the same safe treatment approaches that we use for the rest of the lake) extending outward to approximately dock length or the customary swimming/boat docking areas For this process and price, Savin will not have any contact with the individual riparians and treatment will occur with other broader activity on the lake

The PLPOA will send Savin all checks and a list of property addresses at the beginning of the season only. Notice of treatment will be posted along affected shorelines prior to application. Posted notices will include any applicable water-use restrictions
