Pine Lake 2025 Boat Count Summary

The 2025 Pine Lake annual boat count recorded 494 total powered watercrafts (sport boats, pontoons and PWC’s), continuing a steady increase over the past several years. This represents the highest total powered watercraft since 2016. For historical context, boat counts dipped as low as 225 in 2018 but have risen consistently since 2020.  

This year’s data highlights that “Other” (non-powered watercraft) remain the single largest category, followed closely by pontoons and sport boats. The variety and number of boats reflect Pine Lake’s popularity for both leisure cruising and active water sports.

With the growing number of boats on Pine Lake, it is important for all boaters to follow safe boating rules and guidelines, and to be respectful of fellow boaters to ensure everyone enjoys the lake safely.

Weed Harvesting is Completed

Oakland Harvesters was selected not just for price, but also the quality/age of their harvesters to minimize debris as well as technology to report the amount and areas harvested. The harvesting of the native nuisance weeds in the boating lanes was completed this week.

Pine Lake Tragedy - Police Identify Man - Sheriff Office Is Asking for Our Help

To assist the investigation of Alfonce Capone Friday, age 30, , review your security footage from Tuesday, July 22nd through Tuesday, July 29th, 2025.  If your cameras cover lake access points, docks, or shoreline areas, it’s also worth checking any unusual activity between July 22nd–29th, especially if your system uses motion detection or logs events.

Water Level Update

The current lake level is ~ 931.2. That is about 3 inches below our last reading, but not a bad level for August/ September.

Boat Safety - Time to Review DNR Website

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Boating Website is a great way to stay informed. Get information on boating classes, who needs a certificate and how to earn one, or review the boating safety checklist.

Boat Safety - What NOT to Do!

• Boaters on the lake traveling the wrong way

• PWC’s going the wrong way and driving too close to boat sterns

• Playing speakers too loud. Sound travels across the water.

• Wake-boarding too close to shore (200 ft violation)

• Young passengers sitting on the bow of pontoon, dangling their feet in the water while in motion

• Boats towing skiers, tubers, wake boarders and surfers without a life jacket/personal floatation device or observer

• Passengers on pontoon boats sitting on the “front deck” (beyond the front gate

  while the engine is on

• Boats less than 200 feet from the shore, boats, anchored boats, docks, rafts, and other structures

• Creating a wake when less than 200 feet of any dock, boat, raft, shoreline, buoy or occupied swim area.

  The buoy in front of the Marina cautions boaters that this is a wake zone.
  These behaviors are very dangerous and could lead to severe injury or death!

Boat Safety - Reminders

• Follow Michigan Boater requirements

• Navigation lights at dusk

• Stay in the deep water path!

• No skiing, tubing, or surfing 1 hour after sunset

• Stay out of ski course and away from buoys

• Holidays, especially July 4th weekend, are very busy.

• Be patient and be mindful of safety. Wake will be challenging for many boating activities

• Violation of Distance Requirement – 200 ft No Wake 7/24

• PWC‘s are not allowed from Sunset to 8 AM per Michigan law
