If you or your neighbors set off fireworks, as a courtesy, PICK UP the DEBRIS the next morning. This prevents toxins from seeping into the lake and affecting the habitat. Thank you to the neighbors who collected fireworks debris the day after July 4th. See pictures of 2021 Floating Debris

Ski Course - Everything You Wanted To Know But Were Afraid To AskHistorical Pine Lake Slalom Course …. Michigan is one of the top 3 states in the U.S. for number of slalom skiers and has an active grass roots and professional tournament scene, as well as the Michigan Waters Ski Association. Pine Lake has our fair share of true inboard, flat bottom ski boats and over 2 dozen course skiers that come out early in the mornings to chase both the flat water and those buoys. Michigan All Sport lakes that have slalom courses are sought by home buyers that are interested in this unique sport. Our slalom course has long been an important fixture of Pine Lake, dating back to the early 1970’s, it is one of the longest running ski courses in southeast Michigan! Awesome Weed Treatment Results!Savin Lake Services conducted two aquatic weed treatments this summer, under our Lake Management Plan. One of the two treatments focused on the invasive aquatic weed Eurasian Milfoil, and a second focused on nuisance weeds in or near our boat lanes. A scan will be conducted later in the summer to document the success of the treatments, but a visual inspection showed excellent results meaning a diminished level of visible weeds. A newer treatment using ProcellaCOR (outstanding EPA rating) was piloted at the Pine Lake Marina last summer and was a total success, meaning no invasive Eurasian Milfoil remained in 2021.
A second large bed off of Birch Harbor was also treated with ProcellaCOR, this summer and visually the treatment appeared to eliminate the Eurasian Milfoil. For the remaining beds, containing the invasive Eurasian Milfoil, Savin placed 2-4-D with a bio-wash, and visually they appeared excellent. The second nuisance weed treatment was also a success, as we see fewer weeds clogging up the boat lanes.
Since our program began in 2016 we have seen a reduction of Eurasian Milfoil from 10% of the lake weeds to less than 2% of the lake weeds. It is working! Thank you again for not boating when requested by PLPOA, as your cooperation helped the accurate placement of the treatment over the lake weed beds.

Yowza, We Have A Lot Of Boats!Can you guess what type of boat is the most popular on our lake?
The annual boat count was conducted in July on our 395 acre lake. There were 474 motorized boats which exemplifies the importance of safety. The most popular boat on the lake is the pontoon boat - 185 of them.

July 14th article in the Beacon Newspaper This article speaks about the high number of complaints the marine sheriff’s have been receiving on the lakes around us. A late 2018 PLPOA survey with members showed the #1 top priority is SAFETY on our 395 acre lake. The mission of PLPOA is SAFETY and a healthy lake. We have all seen unsafe boating on our lake and the PLPOA Board believes the sheriff is the most appropriate way to address this especially with a 50% increase in the number of watercraft on our lake the past two summers. Letting issues go unaddressed could lead to severe injuries or death as have occurred every year on other lakes around us. Having neighbors police neighbors isn’t what we want either. While we may need to address specific situations, we believe we are lucky to have the sheriff patrol on our very busy lake.
During a time with so many boaters and non motorized craft enjoying the lake differently, it seems prudent to do as members ask by having random marine patrol on the lake. If there are 474 motorized boats counted in the annual boat count on July 6, that means 474 motorized boats as well as non motorized craft were on the lake with (1) sheriff. It is impossible for he/she to see everything and respond. As the July 14 Beacon Newspaper article above states, there are an extra amount of calls for citations and assistance this year across Oakland County. The good news is, reports of theft and vandalism are down and knock on wood, we have not had any serious incidents, thank God.

Safety - Wake Boat Path & Life JacketsLife Vests are mandated by the state and are there for our protection. The sheriff will always check that the appropriate quantity and type of life jackets are on your boat if you are stopped. This is the law and all boaters on Pine Lake should ensure they are in compliance or they could be ticketed. It’s like a seat belt - state mandated and worn for our protection. Here are recommendations if you are looking for appropriate type II life jackets. Water Outfitters Amazon Basspro Wake Boat Path - Last year when the deep water wake boat path was introduced to protect the lake bottom and surrounding properties, it said “The map is a guide and a suggested route. Use your judgment, stay in deep water, be safe and respectful to other boaters. If it is too crowded, make the circle wider or try another time. While we realize the suggested route isn’t perfect, it’s a start.”
On a holiday weekend, or a peak traffic day, extra caution and judgement needs to be applied because of high traffic. Those who water ski tend to use the ski course during early morning hours to avoid traffic and guarantee flat water.
If you are pulled over for using the wake boat path on a busy day, the officer may think the lake is too crowded. Times like this, where we have so many boats and NEW boaters on the lake, (over 100 new boaters) we need someone to keep order and lawful behavior so no one gets hurt.

DEEP WATER WAKE BOAT PATH
Purpose- To protect property, seawalls, lake bottom and shorelines we developed a deep water wake & surf route for ballast filled wake boats.
The map is a guide and a suggested route. Use your judgment, stay in deep water, be safe and respectful to other boaters. If it is too crowded, make the circle wider or try another time. While we realize the suggested route isn’t perfect, it’s a start.

Reporting an Incident - Emergency #’s for Your PhoneThe marine sheriff on random days and times, patrols the lake. He/she will not see every incident, or the same things you see. That said, if you witness an incident, (excessive noise, traveling too close, traveling the wrong way, etc) get the MC#, take a video and call the the appropriate number below. If there is no sheriff on the lake, they can sometimes put a “jump boat” in the water and or make a visit to the homeowners, provided they have proof. Rain Dances Worked - Water Level UpdateAt the start of the boating season, the water level was quite low. The good news is we have been blessed with a lot of rain! The Lake level is now at the desired, ideal level, which is just where we want it for this time of year. Enjoy!
