Message from the PLPOA President Lucy Young

Dear PLPOA Members, Welcome to the first newsletter of the year! As the spring and summer of 2024 are fast approaching, I am filled with excitement for these seasons ahead on our beloved Pine Lake.

We know that Pine Lake is a premier and much desired lake in the Tri-county area and across Michigan, and living by this lake is truly special.

Amidst our anticipation for the warmer months, I want to reassure you that the primary focus of our board remains: 1) the preservation and enhancement of the health of our lake and 2) to ensure the safety of all riparian’s and family and friends as we enjoy the lake this year. As stewards of this natural treasure, we understand the importance of maintaining its ecological balance and ensuring its longevity for generations to come

With this commitment in mind, our board continues to diligently monitor weather and lake conditions. The forecast of precipitation in Michigan seems to be more variable year-by-year, and the first thing to ensure a healthy lake is having bountiful water levels. We hope mother nature works in our favor as we head into the spring and summer months. Our Board Limnology Committee continues to review results of weed assessments and develops plans to manage invasive weed species in our lake. Lucy Henny obtains permits annually so we can work together to manage the Canadian geese population on our lake. Stacy Sullivan works with the Oakland County marine division to ensure we provide sheriff presence on the lake for safety, especially on the busiest of week-ends an holidays. Kris Mayer helps maintain the ski course and monitors the water levels around the lake. These and many many other things are all done by our Board of volunteers! I appreciate all of their work and dedication. And we appreciate our Pine Lake Riparians for your annual dues payments to support these lake management strategies.

As we embrace the promise of spring and eagerly anticipate the joys of summer, let us reaffirm together our dedication to the preservation of Pine Lake. Please do your part to follow our guidelines regarding lawn fertilization, notify us in the spring of any goose nests you may see around the lake, and please follow our safe boating and wake-surf boating guidelines.

Geese Remediation Program - We Need Your Help!

The PLPOA has engaged Goose Busters for many years. They file the permit and perform goose egg collection and nest destruction. The company comes to the lake twice, in the spring, approximately two weeks apart. They launch a boat in the lake and travel to areas where we had nests in prior years, or where residents have reported a suspicious geese nesting area.

We need your help from March to mid-April! Your role is to assist with identifying the location of the nests that contain eggs. You are looking for a pair of geese, then there is only the male swimming in an area. The nest will be in this area. Often the femaile make her nest in the same place each year. PLEASE Contact us and tell us the best description of the area of the nest from the lake view. You can include pictures.

Water Level Update

The lake level is currently high from the winter snow and heavy rain, however it is draining well and should get closer to a spring level over the next several weeks.
