Fireworks Debris Reminder

Reminder – If you or your neighbors set off fireworks, please PICK UP YOUR Fireworks DEBRIS the next morning. Fireworks debris toxins should not be allowed to leech into the lake.

Thanks to our members for our ever improving dues collection. Because of this we were able to provide 2 treatments this year which is important in a spring - that seemed like summer.

• We want to thank everyone for staying off the lake for our two spring weed treatments.

• As of late June, treatments are showing effectiveness in the control of invasive species and other nuisance beds on the lake.

• We will continue to monitor weeds across the summer, given low water levels, to determine whether any additional actions need to be taken this season.

• Your Rain Dances have been working! Normally we would be on a downward trend in June and beyond, although we are not at the level we would like, we have been holding our own and have even gone up an inch.

• Rain predicted over the recent and next few days will bring more relief.

• Wake boarders and Surfers have been using the wake board route and at least the center of the lake more this year. (yes not everyone, but trend is promising)

• Water is remarkably clear this year, especially on non windy days

Wake Boarding - Use the Route to Protect Lake & Property

In an effort to protect property, seawalls, lake bottom and shorelines we developed a deep water wake & surf route for Pine Lake. HERE 
The map is a guide and a requested route. Use your judgment, stay in deep water, be safe and respectful to other boaters. If it is too crowded, make the circle wider or try another time.  While we realize the suggested map route isn’t perfect, it’s a start.  Let’s make a go of it.

Q & A From Our Members

Question - I was told that one of the houses on the lake may become a business and start renting as an Air B & B, (short term rental). Is this something PLPOA can address? Is it legal?

Answer - We understand there is an ordinance that does not allow a business to operate out of a home. That said, the West Bloomfield Township governs policy and ordinances for things like this - Call the West Bloomfield Township Code Department - 248.451.4800.

Question - I saw fluffy tan colored foam by my shoreline and am wondering what that is from?

Answer - Lake foam can often be seen after high, whipping winds occur. However, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently issued its annual recommendation to stay away from any foam you may see on lakes, rivers and streams.

The foam may have unknown chemicals or bacteria in it, so it is recommended to avoid contact. Foam can form on any lake, but foam on some may have high levels of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS - containing foam tends to be bright white in color, often lightweight and may pile up like shaving cream on shorelines or blow onto beaches.

Naturally occurring foam without PFAS tends to pile up and is typically off-white and/or brown in color and often has an earthy or fishy scent. Read More

We want everyone SAFE! Please share our rules with new boaters. 
See list of complaints we have received:

• New boaters on the lake traveling the wrong way

• PWC’s going the wrong way and driving too close to boat sterns

• Playing speakers too loud

• Wake-boarding too close to shore

• Young passengers sitting on the bow of pontoon, dangling their feet in the water while in motion

Reporting an Incident - Emergency #’s for the Lake

Although the sheriff will be patrolling the lake this summer, he/she may not see an incident that you see. If you witness an incident, (excessive noise, traveling too close, traveling the wrong way, etc) get the MC#, take a video and call the the appropriate number below. If there is no sheriff on the lake, they can sometimes put a “jump boat” in the water and or make a visit to the owners home, provided they have proof. You can email your video, pics and details directly to our sheriff. Stay Safe!
